Group Design Project – B202

Academic year 2011/12


Learning outcomes

  1. Ability to identify and evaluate the key drivers for the design of a product including functionality, usability, environmental legislation, intellectual property and mass production.
  2. Ability to use and create feasibility reports and design reports for new products.
  3. Familiarity with good practices and common mistakes of working in small groups.
  4. Awareness of the diverse engineering disciplines required for developing commercial products.



Assessments


Group work, project management and product development are assessed through 3 coursework assignments to be completed by teams of 11 or 12 students:
  1. Feasibility reports were due March 25, 2012 and contributed 30% to the unit mark.
    Teams were required to pitch one feasible product concept on March 26, 2012.
  2. Design reports are due May 20, 2012 and contribute 30% to the unit mark.
    Teams were required to demonstrate product prototypes on May 11, 2012.
  3. Team journals are maintained during the entire semester and contribute 40% to the unit mark.
    The next marking date for team journals is May 22, 2012.

The unit is 100% coursework assessment. NOT being on a team is equivalent to failing due to non-submission.
