Learning outcomes

  1. Awareness of ethical, commercial and management issues in technology related professions.
  2. Ability to evaluate multiple, and possibly conflicting, requirements such employment contracts, national legislation, professional codes of conduct and personal ethics.
  3. Use and articulate a decision making process.



Assessments


Reflection and application of the unit learning outcomes will be assessed through coursework assignments and a final examination, both using case study question format.
  1. The coursework contributed 40% to the unit mark.
  2. 90 minutes end of unit examination contributed 60% to the unit mark. Students must bring their own calculator to the exam. This formula sheet will be provided with the exam paper.



Syllabus and notes


  1. Suggestions for writing case study responses
  2. Ethical analysis with consideration for professional codes of conduct, intellectual property contracts, legislative frameworks and the decision process
  3. Leadership and management issues in the workplace
  4. Financial analysis using interest and present values
  5. Risk analysis using maximin criterion, minimax regret criterion, expected value criterion and decision trees

Students must bring their own calculator to the exam. This formula sheet will be provided with the exam paper.
