Types of quantitative questions
- Multiple choice
- Multiple select is similar to multiple choice, but, allows more than one response to the question
- Dichotomous are commonly true/false or yes/no questions
- Rank order is used to compare multiple products/tools/alternatives
- Rating scale is used to measure the value of a specific characteristic
- Semantic differential scale uses a written scale that has two bipolar adjectives at each end.
- Staple scale uses a numeric scale from +5 to –5
Qualitative questions use categories with text labels for responses.
The order of questions in a survey should be from general to specific. Filter questions should be used to decide which questions are relevant to a particular respondent.
Each question must be accompanied by a hypothesis and at least one research source.
